Malamulo Medical Complex is a unique and challenging project that resulted in specific design focuses on healing, climate control and adaptation and sustainability. The steep and challenging site features a unique plant palette with plants ingrained in South African roots possessing qualities of healing and medicinal purposes. The design concept follows through with outdoor waiting areas and verandahs on the exterior of buildings to allow Malawian patients to embrace their natural environment and feel comfort while visiting the medical complex. Too many patients do not seek the help they may require because of uninviting and slow moving medical facilities currently and this project truly focuses on embracing South African qualities of life and applying them at the medical complex to create the most inviting space possible. The design set features some conceptual 3D visuals, detailed CAD plans and sections and research and analysis related to Malawi and healing.
