Site Location: 6170 Ridge Ave, Philadelphia, PA Client: Roxborough Development Corporation Skills: Project & Construction Management, Construction Skills, Fine Grading, Storm Water Management, Paving, Landscape Designer: Groundswell Design Group Project Team: StudioTorres, Holly Days Nursery, Creative Environments Project Description:Roxborough Pocket Park project was an awarded bid for the installation of a park between two buildings, one of which is to be developed into a brewery and restaurant in the near future, which will open up to the new park. The project is for the Roxborough Development Corporation (RDC) which is the local development corporation for the neighborhood. Not only has the park gotten the community excited, it is also spurring economic development along the commercial corridor of Ridge Avenue. The park installation includes various underground storm-water management facilities and the park intends to hold all water on-site putting none back in the combined sewer system. Some of the storm-water facilities include trench drains, an infiltration basin and a rain garden. The park is being paved with 2x2' Hanover paver slabs, charcoal accent pavers and a black Belgian stone edge along newly installed landscape. The slab pose a challenge for final grading and cutting to size. The rain garden features wetland species plants specified by PHS for a grant for the park. My role in the project included managing construction, dealing with the project team and parties involved including subcontractors. I also issued change orders, invoices and additional contracts related to the project. Footer work for installation of light poles and bollards was also part of the scope.
